OverviewThe municipal depot has traditionally been the hub of local government services: it is where organization, technology, and operational readiness come together. Whether it’s a storage area for building materials, road maintenance, landscaping, or winter services—the building yard ensures that towns and municipalities function on a daily basis. Building on this, this site—now as a conversion yard—could also play a central role in the reuse of building components and the reduction of construction waste. In a pilot project by Architektur Raumburgenland and asphalt/Kollektiv für Architektur, these possibilities were put to the test in practice through temporary popup conversion yards. The book document this practical trial and demonstrates the potential of this infrastructure for resource-efficient building practices. Supplemented by guest contributions, it brings together diverse perspectives and presents the conversion yard as a transferable model. At the same time, it provides impetus for a building practice that actively promotes material cycles.
