Overview

UFOs TODAY: 70 Years of Lies, Misinformation & Government Cover-Up UFOs TODAY -70 Years of Lies, Disinformation, and Government Cover-Up, presents UFO studies that colleagues and I have undertaken during about thirty years as field investigators. The material is generally presented in chronological order, beginning with information that the government had been investigating the phenomena prior to the Kenneth Arnold event. What makes it truly unique and valuable is that several of my co-investigators and I have not only probed the organizations where the research on UFOs has been conducted, we have also worked in many of the most crucial institutions involved in the UFO field. Thus, unlike the few others that have done this kind of research, we have had an inside tract to understanding the organizations, the researchers, and the results of the studies. Examination of government knowledge of the UFO phenomena is vital because it provides important evidence about whether the subject is taken seriously by government authorities, and can potentially provide technical information about the phenomena. The manuscript also includes never-before-published first-hand interviews and correspondence with many of the most important and the initial investigators of the phenomena. This is significant because many of these people have died and those who are living are quite old. Thus, this research provides a historical record of the reasoning and opinions of those making an initial impact in this field. It also covers the complexity of the phenomena, which has contributed to the difficulty and controversy in conducting this field of research. The manuscript also features the testimony of a former US Deputy Sheriff who was a witness to the UFO crash at Roswell. This gentleman's unique testimony will be published here for the first time. UFOs TODAY is like no other book on the UFO subject as it comes from an academic who worked behind the scenes at a number of locations and witnessed the official cover-up for herself.

Reviews

This new book from Irena McCammon Scott, is subtitled '70 Years of Lies, Misinformation and Government Cover-up' and has to be one of the best books of its kind ever to emerge in recent years. Philip Mantle's Flying Disk Press who published it, have done the public a great service here, because this well presented, abundantly illustrated and meticulously researched book is never patronising and is remarkably open-minded about the nature of the phenomenon itself. The book opens, appropriately enough, with the event that started ufology as we know it today, i.e. the iconic Kenneth Arnold sighting and moves steadily through the usual suspects including the now legendary events at Roswell and what occurred at Kecksburg. It is also satisfying to see that the cruel, cynical, and wholly unnecessary way in which Paul Bennewitz was systematically driven mad by US Air Force intelligence (with, it has to be said, no little assistance from within the UFO community) is given the attention it deserves. Where the author really shines though is in the fact that she is eminently qualified and was actively involved with some of the organisations who researched the phenomena and several of her associates were also involved with the same organisations. This has lead to some genuinely fascinating insights into details that have become either forgotten or deliberately obscured. These details will fill in many blanks and unanswered questions regarding some of the cases, but, crucially, she also looks at all the possibilities, something that is often regarded as heresy and sadly lacking in certain area of this already fractious subject. Are UFO really extraterrestrial machines piloted by humanoids? Or are they devices from other realties and dimensions? These are also valid possibilities and they are, rightly, considered here. A great piece of work and well worth a read.Review by Brian Allan.Editor, Phenomena Magazine
