Types of Drama: Plays and Contexts

Overview

"This collection of plays contains about 50 plays, half of which are contemporary. This edition includes seven more plays than previous editions, as well as expanding the 20th-century coverage to include Anna Deveare Smith's ""Fires in the Mirror"", and Tony Kushner's ""Angels in America"". The text anthology (Part II) is divided into nine historical periods that sketch the historical and cultural context of the plays. For further reference, a listing of bibliographic and video resources that covers each author/play is included at the end of the text. The introduction (Part I) has been revised and ""My Brazil"", by Rachel Rosenthal, is included. Photo essays give students an opportunity to see visual illustrations of a variety of dramatic subjects. This text asks students to think critically about drama performed on the stage as well as on the page."
