OverviewA beam of twisted light is due to return to Earth after being in space for five decades. The light beam is encoded with data the government wants to keep secret. Most of the astrophysicists who encoded the light beam fifty years ago are dead, and now the scientists who have been preparing to capture the light beam and recover the data have died in unexplained accidents. Brianna, a twenty-one-year-old graduate, learns on the day of her parent's funeral that she will need to take her father's place and capture the light beam and distribute its data. Brianna is unprepared and afraid, but she must overcome her fears and her grief. A small group will help Brianna, but all of them are at risk of being discovered, so they must learn how to run and how to hide. The plot worked pretty well for me, too, and a number of the side characters were introduced with quick sketches that, for their shortness, were very impressive in showing us who they were. In all, I strongly recommend this book. If you like dystopian hard science fiction with interesting characters and good emotional character development, this book may be for you.
