Overview

A witness has to be credible and trustworthy. It is the witness who has to be believed, not just his testimony. There are men, like David and Abraham and Job in the pages of Scripture who prove themselves credible. Their faith and peace prove to be genuine because they reveal and express the same doubts and fears and despair that we do. They converse honestly and candidly with God. That is what makes their faith and peace and joy believable. Faith and peace need to be incarnated in real people in order to inspire and sustain faith and peace in others. Paul Volk became a Christian in 1973 in Berkeley, California, after several years pursuing Eastern religions and a counter-culture life. Before that he lived and grew up in Brooklyn, and studied and taught philosophy. After Berkeley he lived and worked in a rural Christian community in Northern Minnesota before moving to Saint Paul. He and his wife now live again in the Bay Area in California where they work with visiting Chinese scholars and students on the Berkeley campus.
