Overview

Shakespeare's most sophisticated comedy is a riotous tale of hopelessly unrequited passions and mistaken identity. Duke Orsino is in love with the noblewoman Olivia. She, however, has fallen for his servant Cesario, who is actually Viola, a woman disguised as a man, who loves Orsino: confusion is rife. Meanwhile, Olivia's arrogant steward Malvolio is cruelly tricked by her uncle Sir Toby Belch, his friend Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and the maidservant Maria into believing his mistress loves him. Niamh Cusack is Viola, Jonathan Firth is Orsino, Amanda Root plays Olivia, Dinsdale Landen plays Sir Toby Belch, and Julian Glover is Malvolio.

Author Information

William Shakespeare (1564-1616) wrote thirty-seven plays. King Lear and Macbeth are widely considered his finest and most popular. They are, perhaps, the most frequently produced works on the planet. E. A. Copen is a coffee addict living in southern Kentucky with her cats and books. When she's not writing, she enjoys cooking and watching just about everything but romantic comedies (unless there are zombies in them). She's been a film school dropout, a professional puppeteer, and retail rebel, all of which allowed her to develop a cynical sense of humor. She is also an unapologetic nerd and occasional enjoyer of comic books and anime. She is a prolific writer of inclusive, action-oriented urban fantasy, horror, and science fiction. Several of her novels have been Amazon bestsellers. Dinsdale Landen (1932-2003) was a British actor well known for his television and stage appearances. He was featured as a voice actor in many BBC radio dramas. Niamh Cusack was born into an acting family of great repute: her father was the late Cyril Cusack, star of the stage and screen, and her mother was actress Maureen Keilty. Niamh became a household name in 1992 when she played Dr. Kate Rowan in the popular ITV drama Heartbeat. She is married to actor Finbar Lynch and they have one son. Jonathan Firth is a British actor and younger brother of actor Colin Firth. Jonathan has performed in radio, theater, and film but is more prominently featured on television. His credits include Middlemarch and Far from the Maddening Crowd, among others. Julian Glover is a classical stage actor who has also appeared in many films, including Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Troy, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, and the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only. He trained at the National Youth Theatre, performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and appeared in many British television series in the 1960s and '70s. Amanda Root is an English stage, screen, and voice actor. In 2009 her performance in The Norman Conquests earned her a Tony nomination for Best Performance for a Featured Actress in a Play. She also played the voice of Sophie in The BFG, held the starring role in the 1995 BBC film adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion, and played Miranda in the British television comedy All About Me.
