OverviewThe need for tsunami research and analysis has grown dramatically following the devastating tsunami of December 2004, which affected Southern Asia. This book pursues a detailed theoretical and mathematical analysis of the fundamentals of tsunamis, especially the evolution and dynamics of tsunamis and other great waves. Of course, it includes specific measurement results from the 2004 tsunami, but the emphasis is on the nature of the waves themselves and their links to nonlinear phenomena. Table of ContentsReviewsFrom the reviews: The book is a collection of articles on nonlinear water waves ! . All in all, this is a good book for both specialists and others who are eager to learn about nonlinear aspects of tsunami problems and nonlinear waves in general. (M. Sinan Ozeren, Surveys in Geophysics, Vol. 29, 2008) A number of international conferences were held in the years following this tsunami where the results of the recent surveys and studies could be presented and documented in proceedings volumes. The book edited by Anjan Kundu is such a volume, but it also contains papers not presented at the conference. ! the book is well organized, and the text and equations are clear. ! a worthwhile addition to a research library used by tsunami scientists and students interested in its specific topics. After obtaining his PhD degree from the PFU Moscow in 1981 he joined JINR Dubna (Moscow) for postdoctoral research. He has been a Humboldt Foundation (Germany) Scholar since 1993 and a Senior Associate of ICTP (Trieste, Italy) from 2006. His major research interests are focused on mathematical physics related to nonlinear systems and in particular in Quantum and classical integrable systems, quantum group, nonlinear dynamics, soliton physics and field models with topological charges etc. He has published more than 100 research papers in international journals and conference proceedings and he edited a book on quantum and classical nonlinear integrable systems, from IOP (UK), in 2003.
