Trustee Rusty

Overview

Everyone knows their teachers and principals-but do you know who helps guide your entire school district? Meet Trustee Rusty and discover the role of the School Board! In Trustee Rusty, an engaging, entertaining, and educational picture book for elementary-aged children, readers and their parents will meet Trustee Rusty, a friendly and dedicated school board trustee for the Greyhound Independent School District, who visits the campus during School Board Appreciation Month. An accessible, straightforward, and fun narrative follows Rusty as he helps the students in his ISD discover what a school board is, how trustees are elected, and why their work matters to every classroom. With a splash of real-world civics, young readers learn how school boards support students, staff, and families by making important behind-the-scenes decisions. At a time when public school districts nationwide rely on elected school boards, this book invites young readers and their families to learn who leads their schools-and how they can be involved in their communities, too. Perfect for elementary school libraries and classrooms, this story also resonates with families of school board members, educators, and local elected officials. With a tone reminiscent of My Magical Choices, If You Give Your Dog a Donut, and The Invisible Leash-but grounded in real civic education-Trustee Rusty fills a unique and important gap in children's nonfiction.
