MICHAEL H. ANNISON is president of The WestrAnd Group. His 1993 book, Managing the Whirlwind, won the 1995 James A. Hamilton Book of the Year Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives. DAN S. WILFORD is president and chief executive officer of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and chairman, VHA, Inc. He is the winner of the American College of Healthcare Executives Gold Medal Award as the nation's outstanding health care executive, 1996.
