Overview

In this chronological telling, the author highlights racial discrimination and insensitivities that happened during: (1) incidents of poverty and abuse during her childhood; (2) struggles to catch up and be accepted in adolescence; (3) problems faced as a young, single mother; (4) and, when the opportunity presented, going after and achieving an educational dream that was initially blocked by a women's discrimination mindset. She also blends in some episodes of how she misjudged people along the way. True Colors goes beyond the Black-White-Red-Yellow-Brown continuum of ethnic differences. It advocates a new color, the color ACCEPTANCE, which we, as a society, are working toward but have yet to fully embrace. Recommended easy reading for junior/middle/high school students and adults.
