Truck a Duck: A Simpato Mystery

Overview

A food-truck storm is brewing in the wine-soaked tourist heaven of Simpato. Sal DeVine, temporarily suspended lawyer and town Keeper of Secrets, takes on a new challenge, covering a City Council meeting for the local paper, the Simpato Quack. Known to the locals as Sin-Pato, or Without a Duck, Simpato is famous for its wine, gourmet food, cannabis-cookie-selling nuns, and awful duck puns. Is there room for food-trucks downtown? The locals working in the tourist hotels and vineyards want places they can afford to eat at amidst the high-end restaurants and boutiques. The shop owners and winemakers don't agree. The City Council compromises with a two month trial for three of the five local trucks-a fair solution until one food truck owner turns up dead. Are the spots worth dying for? Is the chic atmosphere worth killing for? Sal DeVine needs to know.

Reviews

Praise for Claudia H. Long's Murder without a Duck ""A good old-fashioned mystery with just the right amount of wit, humor and long-held secrets. I loved it!"" -Denise Allan Steele, author of Rewind ""For a small town, Simpato has some giant secrets. And it's all duck or no dinner for Sal DeVine if she can't discover the secrets that got the gossip columnist killed. A tongue-in cheek murder mystery with a hilariously irreverent cast of characters."" -Kelly Oliver, author of The Jessica James Mysteries ""If you like murder mysteries with a different twist, Murder without A Duck will fit the bill (pun intended). And yes, the book is filled with amusing, maybe batty, puns. The characters are, to say the least, offbeat, and Sal's various interactions are as hilarious as are the town's expectations of her. There is, of course, that murder, and what's more fun that solving one? Or trying? If you're looking for an entertaining read, don't duck out (pun also intended) on this one."" -David H. Perlstein, author of Taking Stock ""Murder without a Duck was a laugh a minute and a wonderful weekend 'away.' I know the 'real' town and I think author Long has her finger on the pulse of Simpato. Buy a copy of the book and take it to read at the spa after you visit the geyser next time you need R & R. You won't be sorry."" -Ana Manwaring, author of Kickback
