Overview

This book is a comprehensive guide for anyone contemplating buying their first Herald or Vitesse. It will help you decide which model best suits your needs, and guide you through the checks needed to find a good car. The unique construction of the Herald and Vitesse made them popular with amateur restorers long before they became collectable cars in their own right. As a result, there are many roughly assembled cars in circulation amongst other truly excellent examples. Whether you are looking for a project of your own, or a ready-to-go show car, this book will help you find it.

Author Information

Bill's first Herald, a bright yellow 13/60 Convertible, was bought as a minor restoration project in 1989. Within a year it was joined by a 1200 Saloon for winter use, displacing the MGs that had been his previous daily transport. Over 100 Triumphs followed, mostly Heralds, but including Coupes, Couriers and other rare variants. Bill has been actively involved with several Triumph clubs, and is currently a member of Club Triumph. He has written numerous magazine articles, both technical and historical, on the Herald, and runs a small business making parts for Triumphs and other classics. In 1958, Andy Mace's dad brought home a Triumph 10 sedan, igniting in Andy a passion for Triumphs that continues to this day. In 1964, the 10 was replaced with a Herald convertible. Andy learned to drive in that car five years later, and soon acquired his own Herald, followed by a Spitfire and other Triumphs. Andy has been active in several local sports car clubs, and in the national Vintage Triumph Register (VTR). Since 1981, he has been VTR's vehicle consultant for the 10, Herald and Sports 6 (Vitesse) cars, answering questions about parts and repairs. Andy served as VTR's President from 1996-2001.
