OverviewBeing part of the Lady Tigers is about more than playing fastpitch softball. It's about being part of a team. From the very first tryout, Margie, Trish, Sally and Nikki, with the help of their coaches, found they were a force to be reckoned with. But like all teams, the girls find that even the highs of winning cannot crush the painful lessons of hardship both on and off the field. Trish learns what that really means when she tries to pull a fast one to get what she wants without thinking through the consequences. Her decision could affect the game, but more importantly--her friends. Dawn Brotherton's young people's novel, Trish's Team: Lady Tigers Volume One, is an important story about dealing with life's ever-present complications. After all, in a team you play together, not solo. These are very important lessons for young people to learn, but also important lessons for adults as well, not just the trustworthiness, but also the importance of listening to each other and communicating. Well done! - Readers' Favorite
This is the first book in Brotherton's Lady Tigers Series. It is a solid story with interesting and engaging characters. The interaction of Trish with her friends and parents is refreshingly honest and reads like she shows empathy and feels guilty when she does something wrong. It is written for young readers, deftly showing how one decision can affect many other things and people without being preachy. It also demonstrates how conflicted tweens are; mature and childlike while struggling to find their way to adulthood. This is not a heavy book, but it addresses many social issues in interesting ways. For example, the kindness of Trish and her friends to a new girl that someone else is not being nice to is understated but very important. I am looking forward to the next Lady Tigers book, and highly recommend it to tweens. I can't wait to read more of Brotherton's books. - WriteKnit
Through the Lady Tigers' series, young readers will learn about softball, but also about friendship, consequences, disappointment, bullying, and other modern-day issues that are confronted during the tween and teen years. The first volume in what promises to be a truly outstanding 'Lady Tigers' series from the pen of Dawn Brotherton, Trish's Team is very highly recommended for both school and community library collections for young readers. - Midwest Book Review
The debut release in Dawn Brotherton's Lady Tigers series, Trish's Team is a terrific new young adult tale featuring Trish Murphy. Along the way, Trish discovers that being a part of the Lady Tigers is about much more than playing fastpitch softball: it's about being a part of a team. But Trish may have to learn a painful lesson. After all, it really isn't if you win or lose, but it's how you play the game. - Mayra's Secret Bookcase
Trish's Team reinforces the fact that actions have consequences, as Trish discovers when the truth is finally revealed. But it also demonstrates that kids have opinions too, and good parents take time to listen, even if what their kids say makes them uncomfortable. Girls who love sports will relate to Trish's dilemma and cheer for her to make the right choices. - Berger Book Reviews
Finally! A book that combines sports, friendship, family and the complexities of life for today's tween girls. Young readers will root for Trish's Team and learn some important life lessons along the way. - Rachel Campos-Duffy, Author, television personality, and mother of eight
Author InformationDawn Brotherton is an award-winning author and featured speaker at writing and publishing seminars.
