Triathlon a Training Manual

Overview

“The principles in this book are key to improving and performing to the best of your ability. Training this way means that every minute is put to good use. Follow it and you will never look back.” Sîan Brice, British Olympic Triathlete. Triathlon is the ultimate endurance challenge: it pushes the body to its extreme but gives back an immense and unsurpassed feeling of achievement and reward. This book shows newcomers the best ways to try out the sport and, for those already participating, how to achieve their personal best – safely and efficiently. Topics covered include: training and how to prepare a realistic programme; training evaluation and adapting to your strengths and weaknesses; detailed sections on swimming, cycling and running; advise on diet and nutrition, weight training, stretching and flexibility, injuries and finally, preparation for positive, combative mental attitude for competition. AUTHOR: Steve Trew has been involved in triathlon since 1983 as an athlete, coach team manager, commentator and journalist, as well as being a member of the British Triathlon Association. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, he had the dual role of triathlon race commentator and British coach. b/w photos & line drawings
