Najafi is the founder and editor-in-chief emeritus of the ASCE's Journal of Pipeline Systems Engineering and Practice. He published widely on the subjects of pipelines and underground infrastructure systems. Sanjiv Gokhale, PhD, P.E., is a professor of civil engineering and director of the Construction Management Graduate Program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He also holds the title of global professor of civil engineering from New York University Abu Dhabi, (NYUAD) Arab Emirates.
