Overview

The island of New Guinea is the most floristically diverse island in the world with an extremely rich tree flora of up to 5,000 species. Trees of New Guinea details each of the 693 plant genera with arborescent members found in New Guinea. The entire New Guinea region is covered, including the West Papua and Papua Provinces of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the surrounding islands such as New Britain, New Ireland and Bougainville. Author Information

Timothy M. A. Utteridge is a botanist in the Asia Team at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. His research focuses on the taxonomy and systematics of various woody plant groups in South-East Asia, especially members of the tropical Primulaceae, and on the floristics and conservation of New Guinea and Borneo. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Kew Bulletin and co-author of The Kew Tropical Plant Families Identification Handbook and A Guide to the Alpine and Subalpine Flora of Mount Jaya. Laura V. S. Jennings is a botanist in the Asia Team at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Her research is focussed geographically on the Lesser Sunda Islands and New Guinea, and covers the taxonomy of Malvaceae-Grewioideae, analysis of ecological traits and floristics.
