OverviewOsteoporosis ranks among the top three non-communicable diseases contributing to disability and mortality, as reported by the World Health Organization. Primarily affecting women during menopause, it's estimated that out of 28 million cases in the U.S., 20 million are older women. This is largely due to the decline in sex hormone secretion and subsequent decrease in bone density. A similar hormonal decline in older men is also linked to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a progressive skeletal disorder characterized by reduced bone mass and deterioration of bone structure, leading to increased bone fragility and fracture risk. While women in menopause and older individuals are at higher risk, young people can also develop the condition. In Russia, osteoporosis is diagnosed in 34% of women and 27% of men aged 50 and over. This disease is deceptive as it often lacks evident symptoms until fractures occur from minor impacts. Currently, there is no cure for osteoporosis; the main objective is to halt its progression and prevent complications. Early treatment initiation improves the chances of avoiding severe outcomes.
