Serious and persistent mental illness, (SPMI), is a group of severe mental health disorders as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual used by mental health professionals to diagnose clients. The SPMI category includes Major Depression, Bipolar Disorders, Schizophrenia, and Borderline Personality Disorder. These disorders tend to be disabling and therapy involves a team. This book is an introduction to working with clients who suffer from serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) at an outpatient treatment facility.
