A thrilling mystery with a memorable protagonist I found this book to be a truly thrilling ride! The mystery kept me guessing from the very beginning, and I couldn't wait to see how it would all unfold. The protagonist, Maiden Harlow, is a standout character - smart, funny, and so easy to root for as she delves into the dangerous secrets of Golden Glen. LOVED this book (and series!) A friend recommended ""Treasure Hunt: A Maiden Harlow Mystery"" to me for my summer poolside reading. I was unaware that this book was part of a series and unfamiliar with the characters. The book stands on its own, and reading the other Maiden Harlow books is not a prerequisite to understanding and appreciating this book, the fifth in the series. The book jumps right in; the first date with Detective David is interrupted by a murder that catapults events forward. I'm not going to spoil any of the fantastic twists and turns, but I will say I loved the main ""murder"" storyline and found the treasure of the pirate queen so fascinating and rich with detail. Sharp's writing style is excellent; she knows how to tell a fascinating story, and her characters come across as genuine. There's an equal amount of humor and thrills throughout the book. I'm probably not alone in my belief that Maiden should be brought to life in a televised series, as strong, smart female roles are so welcomed. Camille's writing is highly descriptive, enabling readers to vividly visualize the settings and characters. Maiden is truly a lovable protagonist whom you genuinely root for! I recommend this book and will personally read the previous Maiden Harlow books. Writing murder mysteries and romantic fantasy has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. The earliest days were spent crafting alternate worlds and realities while sitting in the car listening to a mix of country, Motown and 80s hair bands. My serious storytelling began in my teens. I was typically hidden away in my room for hours filling many notebooks with handwritten stories. I was about 19 when I saved up and bought my first laptop (I think I still have it shoved in a closet somewhere). It was incredibly heavy and had all the aesthetic charms of a brick. It was also a huge step up from eraser marks, crossed out lines and an aching claw-like grip from wielding my pencil. I write from many perspectives - heroine, hero, side characters and sometimes even villains. I like to write about heroines that are smart, sexy and basically kind. All the things I want to be if I ever decide to grow up. I love romance and I weave it into many of my books, but I explore other relationships as well. Friendships and the many complicated bonds within families are deeply important in writing. I believe that stories are vital. Our imaginations need to be protected and cultivated, and boredom, especially in the hands of resourceful children, can breed creativity and strength. What I've learned along the way is that when you're in a situation that you can't change, stories give you the chance to escape. Even if only for a few hours.
