Carl Pinkert must be congratulated on bringing together a set of expert authors who have covered all essential aspects of transgenesis. A 'must have' for every lab involved with transgenic technology. -Andreas Kolb, Hannah Research Institute The handbook provides an excellent distillation of practical aspects of the fast growing field of animal transgenesis...the second edition contains substantial new and updated information...chapters are well illustrated with useful figures supporting the text...the handbook will be a valuable resource for two audiences, one seeking a broad appreciation for transgenic animal technology, which can be gained through reading the handbook cover to cover, and the other seeking concise descriptions of focused techniques which can be found by selection of specific chapters...overall, the text is well edited...$75.00 and its approximately 600 pages are worth the cost. -TRANSGENICS (2003) This handbook would be valuable to the investigators producing transgenic animal models. It is well organized and the handbook provides a thorough description of current animal transgenic technology across a host of animals. -ANALYTICAL BIOCHEMISTRY (2003) ...this edition covers an exceptionally wide range of aspects of transgenic technology...The major strength of the book is that it comprehensively covers most important aspects of transgenic technology. He earned his B.S. from Colorado State University, M.S. from Southern Illinois, and Ph.D. in 1983 from the University of Georgia, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania. He was an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri and then worked at DNX, Inc. (where his proposal for the National Transgenic Development Facility for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development was awarded and implemented) before joining the UAB faculty. Dr. Pinkert's primary research efforts involve gene transfer, expression, and regulation using transgenic animal modeling. His work has illustrated the potential of modifying the immune system, enhancing growth performance, and the feasibility of molecular farming. He has published extensively on transgenic modeling, reproductive biology, and embryology of laboratory and domestic animals. He serves as an Editro of Transgenic Research and has served as an ad hoc reviewer or consultant for several journals, government agencies, and companies.
