Overview

Land ownership is generally controlled by farmers who in this book are referred to as farming communities. Actions that occur are caused by relationships or networks that are built-in farming communities. The farming community in Ngringo Village is the same construction as other village communities in Java, Indonesia. Ngringo village also has homogeneity, permissive socio-economic and norms as instruments in their social actions. However, when the change in society leads to differentiation, causing the network (social farming community) to form two main networks based on emotional ties and interests, these two networks become a catalyst in changing the function of agricultural land. The existence of a village growing in modernization has resulted in reduced land accompanied by limited resources owned by the farming community so that ways are born to adapt to the existing situation. Almost all agricultural land has changed hands or ownership to the owners of capital and developers. With this condition, it is increasingly difficult for farming communities to carry out agricultural activities, which ultimately affect the existence and sources of income to fulfill daily life. Diversification of livelihoods occurs in several types of work, such as shopkeepers, tradespeople, construction workers, and farmworkers, while to become factory and office workers, they have limited resources.
