When is it okay to fight against your king? Silas' mother says never. His friend says now. His father is dead, his mother is house ridden and sick. The world was changing around him, but Silas was too busy, too tired to notice. When soldiers forced him and his sick mother out of their home and into a rat-infested alley, he knew couldn't ignore the changing world anymore. Taken in by a kindly doctor, Silas Wicklow began to question things - were the soldiers in red coats the enemy or heroes as his mother had always said? Was the empire worth defending or destroying? His opinion changed daily until he found himself standing on Lexington Green holding a dead man's musket.
