OverviewOxford Specialty Training is a major new series aimed at postgraduate trainees, taking into account the training structures and syllabuses newly introduced by the Modernising Medical Careers intiative. Training in Paediatrics is designed to cover the broad knowledge-base required by postgraduate trainees choosing to specialize in paediatrics, from their intial Foundation Year placements through to examination for Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH examinations). The curriculum and new examination structures have been specifically addressed by the authors and editors of the text, creating an accessible, concise and comprehensive text which should be a companion to any doctor undertaking paediatric courses, including the Diploma in Child Health. Trainees and recent veterans of the MRCPCH examination have been involved throughout the authorship and review processes, enabling the text to be honed to trainee requirements. Training in Paediatrics has been broken into the major disciplines that must be mastered by the paediatrician, ranging from neonatology through to statistics and evidence- based medicine. Each two-page spread displays a discreet topic in an authoritative, structured, and highly-illustrated format, allowing the reader to easily navigate the book. The structure allows the reader to break down revision and learning into accessible units. Each case-based discussion at the end of each chapter helps the trainee to contextualize information, test their knowledge against a realistic scenario, and monitor their own progress. Florence Herbert, Institute of Clinical Science, Belfast ...ideal for physicians training in paediatrics...even as a senior paediatrician and a long time teacher in paediatrics, I find a lot to learn and great inspiration from the book. Acta Paediatrica ...a pleasing balance of core knowledge essential to the college exams and hands-on practical advice that would help trainees in their early years of training...this book would also be useful to consultants and clinical supervisors to inform their teaching sessions and level of knowledge expected from a junior trainee.
