Trad Wife

Overview

Your favourite influencer is about to be exposed . . . A deliciously sinister novel from three-time Bram Stoker award-winner Sarah Langan. Every day, millions watch Mia Wright, the ""trad wife"" queen, on her idyllic 300-acre farm. With her handsome husband, seven perfect children, and a life of from-scratch meals and pastoral bliss, she's an icon of modern femininity. But behind every perfect image is a secret. And in this case, the secret is a horror. Desperate to save her tarnished career, journalist Jenny Kaplan arrives at Black Swan Farm to profile Mia. Jenny is ready to write a scathing exposé, determined to uncover the deception behind Mia's curated life. But soon, Jenny has more to contend with than staged videos and picture-perfect poses. There's something wrong at the farmhouse. Something slithers through Jenny's dreams, and at night, the children sing strange nursery rhymes. She's losing time. She's losing her hair. She starts to worry, that she's losing her mind. There is a horror at the heart of Black Swan, and it's waiting just for Jenny. Trad Wife will make you question what's real and what's just a perfectly curated deception . . . Will you see the lie? 'Sarah Langan never ceases to amaze' GILLIAN FLYNN

Insanely creepy, wildly entertaining and razor-sharp -- Gillian Flynn, New York Times bestselling author of Gone Girl on Good Neighbours I loved [Good Neighbours] so much, every word, every page, every painful surprise. I've been screaming the title to all who will listen -- Sarah Jessica Parker, Golden Globe actress on Good Neighbours An all-American horror novel about friendships - deep, shallow, toxic, true - that's unpredictable enough to make every page-turn stomach-crampingly stressful. -- Grady Hendrix, the Sunday Times bestselling author of Witchcraft for Wayward Girls on Good Neighbours Sarah Langan plumbs these literal and metaphorical depths as they rip apart a once-bucolic suburb in her disturbing and mordantly funny new nove -- New York Times Book Review on Good Neighbours Deeply unnerving, as human as it is horror-filled . . . in prose as clean and sharp as shattered glass -- Catriona Ward, author of The Last House on Needless Street and Nowhere Burning on Good Neighbours

Contemporary, gripping and wry, Trad Wife is a surreal and slick feminist feast for the senses that kept me thinking long after I finished the final page. A terrifying delight! Sarah Langan is the queen of modern horror. -- Sarah Pinborough, author of Behind Her Eyes Wonderfully wrong in every way, Trad Wife wants to wriggle down your mouth hole and lay eggs -- Grady Hendrix, the Sunday Times bestselling author of Witchcraft for Wayward Girls Sarah Langan builds her delicate menace so expertly you don't realise where you are, until it's too late. The writing and plotting are exquisite. This book sticks to the reader like superglue, like flies to flypaper. Glorious, unhinged and utterly irresistible -- Catriona Ward, bestselling author of The Last House on Needless Street Creeping with terror and dread at every corner . . . this is a brilliant horror that’s not for the fainthearted -- Stylist Gripping, unsettling, enthrallingly layered and utterly laced with doom - I raced through TRAD WIFE with fascination and dread, like peeking through my fingers at a tragedy unfolding. As always, Sarah Langan’s work is unfailingly empathetic and yet such a fascinating indictment of the public ethos. This is a riveting horror story about bodily autonomy and feminine agency at a time when we need it most -- Olivie Blake, New York Times bestselling author of Girl Dinner A genre beast — menacing, claustrophobic, and wholly unexpected. The novel never does what you expect as a reader. I really enjoyed it -- Mariana Enriquez, New York Times bestselling author of Our Share of Night This is a full throttle supernatural horror that’s not ashamed to be just that. A story that will give you night terrors… and also stop you ever being tempted to buy something from the Tiktok Shop -- SFX Magazine Flat out brilliant! -- Paul Tremblay, author of Horror Movie Filtered through an influencer’s ring light Langan combines the low grade nausea of domestic horror and dread of a more sublime nature - the result is ridiculously impressive and damnably frightening -- FanFiAddict A methodic, apron-clad dread that gets under your skin and stays there . . . Smart, feminist horror that builds a world so recognisable its eventual, terrifying unravelling feels both shocking and inevitable . . . This novel doesn’t just want to scare you; it wants to make you understand why you were already afraid -- Ginger Nuts of Horror
