Her scholarly fields cover urban and rural archaeology and history, including both textile and agricultural production from the Viking Age into the Middle Ages – often seen from a gender perspective. She is the author of Textile Equipment and its Working Environment, Bryggen in Bergen, c. 1150–1500, and has also published findings of the textile tools from the Viking Age town of Kaupang.
