Overview

This collection of papers is from the 1995 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from February 12-16, 1995. New and advanced concepts, as well as an update of the fundamentals, industrial processing/technology developments and environmental issues influencing trace and reactive chemical and metallurgical process selection are discussed in this volume. These issues are discussed in view of pyro-, hydro- and electrometallurgical aspects of trace and reactive metals. Discussion is also included on the importance of recovering trace and reactive metals as by-products and from recycling. Coverage includes: the role of the primary non-ferrous metals industry in the supply and recycling of the metals - selenium, tellurium, bismuth and antimony; the physical chemistry of the removal of copper from molten iron; optimization of plutonium electrorefining through modelling and model material; fundamental physico-chemical aspects of the reducing refining process of stainless steel with calcium carbide.
