Towards Sunset: Poems and Memories

Overview

Take a poignant step back to an era almost lost to the mists of time.  Towards Sunset invites the reader to explore an ancient farmhouse in West Wales, experiencing the simple pleasures, the traditions, the workings of a bygone age. The poems included within are beautifully curated to complement the tour, bringing the past into the present as the reader wanders from room to room.  This book is a delight for the senses. Feel the comfort of a crackling open fire as Christmas preparations are in full swing; hear the joyful song of birds in springtime; see the merry dance of bright yellow sunflowers during the dog days of summer; taste the birthday delight of a traditionally cooked pancake; smell the captivating scent of geraniums lovingly placed on a windowsill.

Author Information

Mary was a published essayist and poet in the Welsh medium before she started writing and competing in English. She has awards from the Cardiff Writers’ Circle, South and Mid Wales Writers’ Association, and is also a member of The Bardic Circle at the National Eisteddfod.   In her role as a primary school teacher, she inspired many children to enjoy poetry and language; some have attained literary achievements in their own right. She was born in rural Carmarthenshire and has happy memories of early experiences of family life in a tight-knit community. She and her late husband, Don, loved holidays in Western France, and these experiences now provide a rich source of inspiration for much of her writing
