Tottenham Hotspur: The Perfect Eleven

Overview

From Danny Blanchflower and Jimmy Greaves in the 1960s, to Glenn Hoddle in the 1980s through to today's heroes, such as Gareth Bale - some of the most magical, supremely talented footballers of the post-war period have worn the famous Tottenham Hostpur shirt. In eleven biographical essays on some of the greatest footballers to bestride the British game, Andrew Warshaw explores the lives of the most celebrated players to wear the Tottenham shirt. He uncovers their personal experience of the club's public triumphs and disasters, recreating some of the most memorable, glorious and painful moments in the club's history. Using a mixture of interview, anecdote, and personal testimony, Warshaw draws on more than half a century as a fan - and 30 as one of the country's leading sportswriters - to create one of the most evocative books ever written about Tottenham Hotspur.

Reviews

Praise for No Smoke, No Fire A story both terrifying - there, but for the grace of God, go any of us - and inspiring. Patrick Barclay, chief football commentator, The Times. A heartwarming account of an incredible journey. It is definitely not a normal football book, but well worth a read. --Gabby Logan, BBC Radio 5Live A story of evil accusation, rumour, innuendo and then ultimately defiance that strikes right at the heart of football and humanity in equal measure. --Mike Dunn, Sports Editor, The Sun.
