Total Succession: 5 Steps for Financial Advisors to Exit Confidently, Be Fully Compensated, and Keep Clients' Interests First

Overview

You will exit your practice. Will you lead it, or will it lead you? As a financial advisor, you've spent years helping clients plan for what's next. But when it comes to your future, delaying seems easier than deciding. The longer you wait, the more likely your exit will be defined by a moment you didn't choose or can't control. This part of the journey is different, and author Tyson Ray knows it's filled with more questions than answers: Who am I without the practice? Will I get what it's really worth? What if my team doesn't want the responsibility or the debt? How can I be sure my clients will be cared for when I'm gone? These quiet fears keep even the most successful advisors stuck. Maybe you're someone who's been working more months than they should and waiting more years than they can afford. That's why Tyson built the SPACE framework-a five-step process designed to help you: See the life you want beyond your practice Prepare your team to thrive without you and keep your clients first Act while you still have time, control, and options that allow you to leave fully compensated Commit to letting go so others can step in Exit with confidence and purpose What comes next is yours to shape, and Tyson is here to walk that path with you. Total Succession is your guide to planning a future you're excited to step into. You only exit your practice once. Do it on your terms.

Reviews

One of the biggest gaps advisors and wealth managers have today from my experience is truly valued and trusted sources for accurate information about their businesses. Tyson Ray is one of those invaluable resources - whom you now have access to through this book! I've known Tyson for over a decade and count him among those on a very short list of people to turn to for all things best practice for wealth management. Those that have the opportunity to engage with him, and certainly the benefits his clients have received from working with him, are best of breed in the industry. It's a pleasure to call him a friend and I look forward to continue learning from him now and future. I hope you do as well! -David Patchen Founder GBED Enterprises LLC Tyson and his team do a great job bringing open and transparent dialogue around difficult, yet critically important topics. His ability to balance the complicated world of succession planning through the lens of the advisor, the client, the acquirer, the banker, the psychologist, and the founder is exceptional. -Dean Smith Director of Business Development at Wealth Enhancement Group I've always believed you should build your business like you're ready to sell it tomorrow. Not to leave, but to lead better. Total Succession captures that mindset perfectly. Tyson shows founders how to create lasting impact, protect their people, and leave a legacy that endures. -Scott W. Danner Executive Vice President, Head of Legacy at Steward Partners Author of Freedom Street For any financial advisor, firm owner, or wealth manager who wants to build a lasting legacy, this book is an essential read. This work goes far beyond the basic checklists and instead explores the nuanced challenges and human elements of transitioning a practice and FINISHING WELL.
