OverviewTopographic Effects in Ocean Currents presents the hydrodynamic fundamentals of ocean current theory taking into account the bottom topography. It described the structures of ocean currents over underwater ridges, seamounts, hollows and around islands. It expounds results of theoretical and experimental studies of the dynamics of topographic eddies in the ocean. New phenomena such as secondary toroidal vortices, chaotic advection and associated mixing processes and transport of passive particles over seamounts are discussed. The book includes results of numerical modeling of the evolution of vortices in areas with seamounts in stationary and tidal currents by the Contour Dynamics Method.
