OverviewThis volume describes some mathematical and physical aspects of emulsion behaviour, starting from fundamental theories such as diffusion, Brownian movement and sedimentation of particles in a fluid. This is followed by a brief exposition of the basic concepts in discrete state space processes and a consideration of some aspects of colloid aggregation phenomena (in particular, the basis of stochastic processes theory, and a display of a new concept in particle coagulation). Applications of the methods outlined are then presented along with a discussion of the general and electrical properties of emulsions. The major emphasis in this work is on the philosophy of stochastic processes theory as a useful tool to theoretically study colloid and emulsion properties.
