OverviewTopic: Recovery is an inspiring and helpful guide for members of 12-step addiction-recovery programs and discussion groups. The author, Tom M., has been sober for over forty-five years and is a long-term member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). He is a counselor at a mental health treatment facility, where he chairs three recovery meetings a week. The number-one reason for failure to stay sober is holding on to resentments. Topic: Recovery advocates for letting go of resentments through forgiveness and prayer. The book also addresses the common issue of relapse: its consequences, how to prevent it, and what to do when the urge comes. Many discussion topics also center on gratitude-for positive life changes, feelings of self-worth, the mending of valued relationships, and the gaining of trust and respect. The book is intended as a guide for program members who are leading discussions, or just wanting to talk about anything of concern. It presents sixty-three suggested topics grouped into categories which roughly follow the arc of recovery: Acceptance & Surrender, Doubts & Convictions, and Maintenance & The Road Ahead. Tom's ability to communicate the message of addiction and recovery in a way so many can relate to is a real gift. He mixes humor into a lesson about life and recovery, which is what makes this book so effective and easy to read. This is a must for anyone looking for answers to beat their addiction. -Larry W., Recovery Coach, McHenry County Tom, my younger brother, saved my life with a phone call. It was the first day of spring in 1975. I was killing myself and couldn't stop drinking. And Tom used many of the principles outlined in this book to start me on a new path that would save my life. In reading this book today, I'm convinced the message is the same: time-tested principles in plain language that can save many lives. -Robert J. Morgan Tom's honest desire to help others on their life journeys is a large part of his being. His writings, based upon life experiences, demonstrate what he lives and hopes for others, like me. Readers will, I believe, find that link. -John Endrud Author InformationTom M. grew up in Duluth, Minnesota, the youngest of five children. He attended Catholic schools for twelve years.
