He has a Master of Civil Engineering and Doctorate of Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley. He is a Professional Geotechnical and Civil Engineer, Board Certified Diplomat of the National Academy of Forensic Engineering, and Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Dr. Storesund is the CEO and President of his boutique engineering and risk consulting firm Storesund Consulting, the CEO and President of his civil works construction company Storesund Construction, Inc. the CEO and President NextGen Mapping,Inc., an innovative software development company, and the CEO/President of his non-profit ""SafeR3"" that focuses on the Safety, Reliability, Resilience, and Risk-Reduction of critical infrastructures. He is the Executive Director of the Center for Catastrophic Risk Management at UC Berkeley specializing in state-of-the-art research and application of safety and reliability of critical infrastructure systems. Ian I. Mitroff is credited as being one of the principal founders of the modern field of Crisis Management.
