Overview

In 2012, there is yet another change to the program in Tonga. Peace Corps/Tonga is initiating a primary-level teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) program. This change is in response to a need for more focused technical training. In addition to TEFL, Volunteers will be expected to initiate other projects during their service, such as healthy living projects, community clean-up and other environmental tasks, computer instruction, and other efforts that depend on personal interests and skills.Historically, over 1,500 Volunteers have worked in more than 30 areas of development sponsored by the Tongan government, private nonprofit organizations, and individual communities.
