Tom Carver (born 2 November 1960) is a writer and former BBC foreign correspondent. He is also the step-grandson of Field Marshal Montgomery.His grandmother Elizabeth Carver married Olympic rower Oswald Carver, a union through which his father Robert Carver was the second of two children, born 1914. After Oswald was killed in World War 1 in 1915, she married Field Marshall Montgomery in 1927, and had a son David. The son of British Army officer himself, Carver was 15 when Montgomery died, and formed part of the honour guide at his funeral at St George's chapel as part of his school cadet force.
