The 18 most frequently occuring letters of the alphabet are introduced in simple words that are well known to children. The letters are introduced in the following order t, o, m, c, a, n, d, g, s, then b, i, f, then e, l, r, and lastly u, p, h. The only 'tricky' word used is 'the'. All the other words are phonically regular. The letter 's' has two different pronunciations in 'cats, cups' and 'dogs, pans'. The vowels are pronounced as 'a' in 'cat', 'e' in 'bed', 'i' in 'tin', 'o' in 'dog' and 'u' in 'cup'. This book is for children aged 4-5 just starting to learn to read. Only a single word or phrase is used on each page, so that punctuation is unnecessary. Capital letters are used for the names Tom and Bella only. This book provides reinforcement for Starter Books A and B using the same letters introduced but in a different order.
