Table of ContentsReviewsToddlers, Teens, Tantrums and Textbooks by Manuela Shenton You could read 40 books on homeschooling or you could just read Manuela Shenton's. If you are interested in homeschooling and you are a reader, you will read 40 books anyway but at the end of all that, realise you could have saved yourself a lot of time. Actually, Manuela wouldn't want you to only read her book; she has an insatiable love of learning and would only be too pleased if you are wired the same way. I first met Manuela when I entered the home-school scene in Perth Western Australia after having already been a school mum for 20 years. As a mature mum with older children as well as the youngest two currently home educated, I see not only advice, encouragement and equipping for the home school journey, but the whole parenting journey, incorporating and encompassing education for the two cannot in fact be separated. I have long believed that parents are their child's most important educator and whether a child is educated in school or at home, that is still true. Home educating simply widens the scope from what is currently the culturally accepted norm. If you want to home-educate, but don't know how you can manage it with so many things on your plate, Toddlers, Teens, Tantrums and Textbooks will help you better see how. This book is not a guide for doing school at home. It is encouragement to see the whole of life as a learning arena with home as the base. For me, I have 20 years of schoolishness to peel away. You may be starting fresh. I salute and envy you as I wish I had my time over. Not because our school years were disastrous, but because I see a more natural way that I am now so excited to be feeling my way within. You will find wisdom in these pages wrought from raw experience; trial and error; sickness and health; babies and learning and growing. Manuela draws from many sources, but with the benefit of direct and lengthy application behind her words having lived a long-range conviction with an ever-sharpening focus. I heartily recommend this book to you, whether considering, starting, or needing a fresh injection of perspective and enthusiasm on your home educating path. Heather McEwan (newbie home educator) ____________________________________________________ I know there is a need for your wisdom to be shared and I think every home educator, teacher and parent would benefit from reading your book.
