"Introduction: This chapter provides an overall description to the present research. The need for this research is outlined and a concise theoretical overview is presented. This chapter also discusses the aims of the research, finally concluding with its significance. The goal of the present research is to analyze the theme ""powerloom environment effect on worker's performance, mental health and well being."" Workers in a work setting are a part of mechanized system with a particular target and the goal of producing maximum out of their capacity. 1.1. Indian scenario of weaving looms Weavers were one of the twelve professionals called ""Balutedars"" in ancient India. The ancient Indian autonomous village system respected the weavers as the providers of one of the basic needs of life that is the clothing. The ample references to the different sectors of weaving industry in the ancient religious literature indicate the importance and prime position that this sector held in the society. Saint Kabir of the medieval age -the handloom weaver not only wove the cloth, but changed the social fabric of entire Indian society. The present research is centered on this profession which seems to have lost its previous prime position in India due to socio-political issues. However, it still retains its importance in this modern era as one of the ancient Indian arts.
