Vasilis Korkolopoulos seeks to rescue from oblivion rare items of folk art covering the entire spectrum of human activity in the recent past (weapons, cartridge pouches, amulets, watches, etc.). Leaving no stone unturned, he searches for the thread that will lead him back to forgotten layers of Greek culture and the Greek psyche. Consequently, simply to browse through the pages of the catalogue of his collection is rather more than just a lesson in good taste: it familiarises the reader with the symbolical vocabulary that created and gave expression to the fantasy world of Modern Greeks. The collection is given a special character and a wider significance precisely by the care shown by its creator for Greek cultural self-awareness, to which the present volume also aspires to give prominence.
