For many years she worked as a writer and copyeditor in medical publishing, medical communications, and advertising. Her fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry have been published in literary journals and anthologies. Her artwork has appeared in juried exhibits and literary journals. Shanti Arts Press published three children's books that she wrote and illustrated. In 2025, Serving House Books published her collection of short fiction Lost in Words. Born and raised in New York City, Calandro received a master's degree in English from Washington University in St Louis.
