To Be Continued . . . Women, Ministry, and Retirement is a generous invitation for women in ministry to intentionally consider the path forward when the door to retirement swings open. After years of responding obediently to the guidance of the various ministry organizations they've served, women are faced with a more self-determined future as their time of service concludes, bringing both anxiety and opportunity. These pages provide space for the questions that come as women contemplate retirement: Where have I been? Where am I going? What will the next phase of my life look like? Who will I become? Its two recently retired pastor-authors share from their own experiences, drawing upon the counsel of scripture and the wisdom of many voices as they address the transitions and adventures that come with retirement from ministry.

Author Information

JoAnn Streeter Shade has ministered in a variety of settings for more than thirty-five years. She has served in Salvation Army congregations and social service programs, and has counseled at North Coast Family Foundation, a Christian counseling center in Northeast Ohio. She writes a weekly column in the Ashland Times-Gazette, and is the author of more than twenty books, including Seasons: A Woman's Call to Ministry. Upcoming projects include Ezer Strong: Teen Women of the Bible; a novel on Salvation Army officership, tentatively named The Sally-Ann Goodwife; and an exploration of the lives of the women in David's life. She is married to Larry, is the mother of three adult sons, Greg, Drew and Dan, and Lauren and Becky, beloved daughters-in-law, and is Nana to the lovely Madelyn Simone and the delightful Elizabeth Holiday. With an M.A. in pastoral counseling and a D.Min. in the Women in Prophetic Leadership track from Ashland Theological Seminary, she combines her academic training with a writer's eye, a pastor's heart and a grandmother's joy through Gracednotes Ministries. Lauren Hodgson has been in ministry as a Salvation Army officer for thirty-seven years, and has served in a variety of appointments, with twenty-six years in the local pastorate. In retirement Lauren writes for various Salvation Army publications and develops resources in the area of spiritual formation. She has been privileged to conduct instructional and reflective retreats in the area of spiritual disciplines across the United States, and is especially blessed by her on-going ministry as a spiritual director. She is wife to John, mother to two married sons, Matt (Meghan) and Zack (Caryn) and grandmother to seven grandchildren. She studied Spiritual Formation through Northern Seminary in Chicago, Illinois.
