I remember going to the movies with my Grandfather and then acting out what I had seen with my Brother & Sisters. In school & later in the Navy, I was always the class clown. In my teens, I became aware that my cousin (Danny Aiello) was making a living as an actor. Knowing someone personally that was Making It, as an Actor made it seem possible that I too could become an Actor. Why not, I thought. I had no idea what a struggle it would be. I have grown up appreciating the works of Pacino, DeNiro, Brando, Dean, Cliff and Hoffman. Having heard that Pacino had studied at H.B. Studios, I went. I loved it and I seemed to have a talent for acting. Unfortunately, I found that loving it and even being good at it, did not necessarily mean that I would get a chance to do it. At the time I began studying in 1976, I started collecting quotes from newspapers, magazine articles, television and radio, from those actors & actresses that I admired. They served as an Inspiration for me during what has become a life long struggle to make a living as an actor. There is no greater joy then becoming one with the character you are portraying on stage and breathing life into the author's words. There is no greater frustration then not getting the opportunity to sing your song. How do you continue to struggle when there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel? As the years went on and my journey continued, I would see myself not only in the words of the actors and actresses I admired but in writers, directors, philosophers, musicians, artists and people from every walk of life. There words gave me the strength I needed to continue. I saw my life, my struggle, my love, my passion and myself in all of the words, from all of the people I chose to put in this book. I can pick up this book and open it to any page, and I will read what it is I need to hear at this particular time in my life. At first I thought this book would be a collection of affirmations for my life as an actor. The truth is, I have learned as much, if not more, about my life off stage from this book. These quotes have been fuel for my Soul and I hope that they serve as an inspiration to anyone having difficulty following their bliss on and off the stage.
