Tithing in the Lives of Abraham & Jacob: How the New Covenant Removed the Need to Bargain with God

Overview

In this first of four well-documented books in The Tithing Series, David G. Mackin overturns traditional teaching on tithing before the Law in the lives of Abraham and Jacob. Although he believes that God blesses Christian generosity, he demonstrates from Scripture that tithing did not make Abraham or Jacob rich and was never a part of the Abrahamic covenant. Readers will discover answers to questions like: (1) What motivated the patriarchs to tithe? (2) Did the ""gospel preached to Abraham"" include tithing? (3) Did the Spirit lead Abraham to tithe? (4) What did patriarchal tithing mean in its original context? (5) Can tithing before the Law be linked to the New Covenant? and (6) Should Christians follow the patriarchs' example of tithing?

Reviews

I have now completed the reading of the first of your four books covering the theme of Tithing, and specifically the errors that have filtered down through Church history on this subject. As one who has sought to faithfully and carefully study and comprehend the truths of the Bible as touch various theological issues the theology behind Tithing has always concerned me, and for years I've felt the Lord needed to raise up someone to carefully expose and resolve the errors of this theological position. David, I believe you are the one chosen by the Lord to do this! Your work may well become the definitive study on this critical subject and set free a multitude of well meaning Christians worldwide from the errors that have been taught on this subject. Having completed a careful reading of your work I want to express my appreciation for all your hard work and incredible clarity on this important subject. I thoroughly enjoyed the in-depth nature of your explanations and fully believe many will be helped by it. I look forward to it becoming available to the public and will be praying it sets many free. Author Information

David G. Mackin is an evangelical, charismatic educator and apologist who holds degrees in Bible (Portland Bible College, 1974) and Religion (Warner Pacific College, 1979). From a child, David always had a very inquisitive mind and knew that God had called him to the ministry. David's many gifts include: writer, editor, researcher, Bible teacher and theologian. David taught at Portland Bible College for eight years where he counseled students and helped to develop the college's curriculum of transferable credits. He is continually developing his own biblical worldview curriculum for lifelong learning. David has preached the gospel in Canada, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Ireland, Finland and Estonia. He is a spiritual advisor both to believers and church leaders. He is known for his prophetic and intercessory ministries but less known for his speech and seminar coaching, worship leading, artistic creativity and poetry writing. God uses him to discern the direction of the Spirit in meetings when believers gather together for prayer and worship. David specializes in helping victims of religious addiction and spiritual abuse. He uniquely combines the intellectual honesty of professional biblical scholarship with genuine spirituality and pastoral care. David desires to heal the divisions in the church by teaching believers how to study the Bible for themselves. He does this by showing believers the necessity of understanding the books of the Bible in their original contexts through the use of professional Bible commentaries and Bible dictionaries. He encourages believers to interpret the Old Testament in light of the New Testament.
