OverviewThis dissertation analyzes the place and role of time in the conduct of criminal trials in Chad. It highlights the importance of the time factor in guaranteeing effective criminal justice that respects fundamental rights. The study examines the different phases of the criminal trial, including investigation, instruction and appeals, in order to assess the timeframes involved. It also highlights the practical difficulties associated with judicial slowness and court congestion. The work highlights the consequences of these delays on the rights of litigants, in particular the right to be tried within a reasonable time. It analyzes existing legal mechanisms designed to regulate the length of criminal trials. The study also looks at the balance between the need for effective law enforcement and the protection of individual liberties. It identifies the shortcomings of the Chadian procedural system in the face of time constraints. Lastly, the report suggests possible reforms aimed at improving the management of judicial time. It thus contributes to the debate on improving the efficiency and fairness of criminal justice in Chad.
