The Time Traveling continues for the Fitzgerald's and their friends in this latest of the Time Benders series. A year has passed, and no one is thinking much of the time travel after their adventures a year ago chasing Tom around the US history. But when Joe is confronted by two FBI agents and asked for assistance by the government officials addressing the Iranian hostage crisis, he decides to resurrect the time machine and use it to fix what the government has failed to do. This is different than anything they have tried to do with their time travel because this time, they want to change events that are unfolding as they travel. They are trying to change events that still occurring and not part of the past. After a failed attempt to sway the Shah of Iran long before the hostage crisis to continue his advancements in his country, Ryan gets picked up by the secret police in Iran, and beat up a bit, and they must dash out of the country. They next try to simply notify the embassy of what is coming and that fails as well. In the next attempt, they get bolder when Ken and Ryan pose as exchange students and work to try to change the minds of the students planning to take the embassy. After many heated discussions, Ken does not return to the housing and Ryan must figure out what happened. Ken is dumped at their doorstop and is bleeding very badly from an attack. Will he make it back to the machine and back to their time and help or not? While they anxiously wait at the hospital, Deb and Becky devise a risky plan to capture one of these students. With Ryan's help, and the aid of a woman the student had already hurt, they manage to get Ibrahim into the machine and back to the barn at Mr. Brewster's. While this final effort was successful in stopping the hostage crisis, it does arouse suspicion from the government and the group is placed in surveillance by the FBI. Deciding the risk is too high that the machine might be revealed, the group makes a mighty decision. Is this the end of their time travel? Are the risks getting too great? We have seen the Fitzgerald siblings grow up and get past their grief, and learn and grow from the use of the time travel. Can they let it go?
