As a child, the author did not enjoy school, but loved her pets and remembered the joy of reading books about animals. Although later qualifying as a children's nurse and obtaining both a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies and a MSc by Research, the author never forgot how important it was for children to escape into a story which also encouraged their reading skills and imagination.This story was initially written for the author's seven grandchildren.
