A lot of her stories celebrate diversity. She was inspired to start writing after her daughters (who are mixed race) complained about the lack of leading characters that look like them, especially in chapter books. Allison lives with her husband and daughters in South London, and she is very proud to be a Governor at Sandhurst Primary School in Catford. She was born in Jersey (a beautiful little island in the English Channel). This probably explains her life-long obsession with the sea - and her overwhelming compulsion to pick up every shell, pebble or piece of sea glass that she comes across whenever she's at the seaside!
