Overview

Crime reporter Eleanor Wooley is reporting on the annual Mother's Day Rodeo when wildfire breaks out in Gold Strike County high country and a dead woman is pulled from the nearby Little Bear River. The community turns inward in fear. Wooley, following her own instincts and a series of dead-end trails, worries that this year's Rodeo Queen may be the next victim. During a high-country excursion to Me-Wuk sacred grounds to foil a scheme to dam the Little Bear River, wildfire breaks out again. Robin Somers is the author of Beet Fields, a murder mystery. A founding member of the Coastal Cruisers chapter of Sisters in Crime, she's an Emerita Lecturer in Writing at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Robin lived in the rural foothill town of Sonora, California, in the nape of the Sierra Nevada, where she kept her horse and worked as a crime reporter for the local newspaper, an editor for the United States Forest Service, and an English teacher. In 2002, she returned to her home near the beach in Santa Cruz, California, where she lives with her husband and their Havanese, Buster. She is a passionate advocate for wild horses. Holly Adams is a classically trained, award-winning actor and narrator who loves every single thing about stories and the beings that inhabit them. With her attention to tone and character integrity, Holly enjoys narrating pretty much anything, and specializes in action-adventure/fantasy, mysteries/thrillers, and the subtle comfort of self-help nonfiction. Holly's first language was Southern, after which her family moved around a lot, finally settling in rural New York. Combined with a love of languages and her professional training, these experiences gave her a range of regional Southern dialects and an excellent capacity for accent and dialect in general. When not behind a mic, Holly continues to perform on stage, in films, and with the circus, especially Red Nose.
