Overview

The judge leapt to her feet in a flash. She had anticipated that the police constable would try to pervert the course of justice although he had been warned of his behaviour. It was however too late, the damage had been done, the jury had false suspicions put into their minds. The question now was should the jury be stood down and a new trial started. Could a new trial be justified? A great deal of public money had already been spent on these trials. Could she really start again with a new jury? Justice or finance makes for a difficult decision. As it was the end of an afternoon she proposed to the barrister for the defence that they should sleep on it.
