No matter what side of the aisle you are on, Linda Sadick Furman's collection of poems are well done and thought provoking. As a teacher and poet, I know how difficult it is to write in rhyme, especially with a serious subject. Her rhymes are well thought out and have a maturity about them. After the heartfelt dedication to her parents, as an introduction to the main sections of the book, Linda shares a poem she wrote as a teacher about bullying. It's a perfect way to set the theme of the collection and an important reminder for everyone. Linda does a great job recounting the events of the past couple of years, and all the ways Trump had his hand in an increasingly tension political landscape. In each chapter's introduction, she describes the current events that inspired the poem or song and even what she was doing before she wrote it. I really enjoyed the inclusion of the historical contexts behind each poem/song. It helped to take my mind back to a more specific time, because it's surprising how much has happened since 2015. Some highlights of the collection include a poem about Trump Linda added on to in 2015, 2018, and 2020 to show the passage of time and the rocky years we lived. There's also a cute song about voting for a mule in the 2016 election. She even calls out the major evangelical groups in America in a poem called Your Lord and Savor is Watching. Author Information

Linda is a retired elementary school teacher. Her use of original songs and poems, coupled with the added enticement of edible manipulatives, resulted in her students' favorite math lessons. In addition to the math tutoring she delivers via Zoom, Linda enjoys her work as a volunteer, recording books and magazines for the blind. As a seasoned reader and thespian, Linda makes stories and articles spring to life for visually impaired listeners. A life-long baker, she also delights in creating treats (mostly chocolate!) for her family, co-workers and friends. Linda lives in Arizona with her husband, Bill, and a rapidly growing, young African Sulcata Tortoise named Tortuga.
